“The Norm is Punishable Unless it’s Exploitable.” This has been the unwavering mantra of our society for so long that we forget what a powerful weapon it can be. The status quo, as we know it, may not always be exploitable but if you dare to change things up, you will often find an exploitative opportunity in doing so. In this blog post I want to go over some examples of how the norm has been exploited throughout history and how these exploits have shaped our world today. The Norm is Punishable Unless it’s Exploitable. Devaluation of currency was one of the first major exploits in our current monetary system. Where fiat money has no intrinsic value, such as gold or silver backing up its worth, and can be created at will by a central bank with little regulation to keep them from creating too much, people are left vulnerable to inflationary policies that devalue their savings over time. The temptation for those who control an economy to use this power periodically as needed is hard not resist given how easy they make it on themselves when everyone else suffers due to these actions.. —
