We all know there are many things we’ve been meaning to buy for a while, but in these times of financial strain, we can’t afford them.
That doesn’t mean you have to stop buying though! There are still great deals to be had on just about every purchase you’re thinking about making before the recession gets worse.

1. Clothes:
If you need a new wardrobe, you can’t go wrong with certain classic pieces.
You don’t necessarily need to roll out your credit card or put down a deposit; there are certainly some great deals to be had, especially if you’re willing to do a little hunting for them.
They may not always be on sale, but there are always ways to save at Nordstrom Rack (formerly GUESS Factory).
They carry designer duds at a fraction of the price. If you’re willing to make a trip to the outlet mall, you can save even more.
Just be sure to shop around and know what you’re looking for first. Not every brand is going to have a deal on everything all the time.
2. Electronics:
This may seem like an odd thing to put on a list of things to buy before recession, but bear with us.
Technology is always changing and there are always fabulous prices on electronics if you know where to look and when to buy them.
There will be some fantastic sales during the holiday season, so you’ll want to be prepared for it. The internet is also a great place to look for the best deals.
Sites like eBay are packed with terrific bargains that you can’t find at your local electronics store or even in the newspaper.
3. Groceries:
If you’re looking for some great deals, turn to groceries. It’s not always cheap, but it’s definitely not expensive either.
Even though many people are looking to save money on food so they can stock up, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice quality for quantity when it comes to your grocery budget.
You can still eat well while buying foods that are so reasonably priced, you won’t even feel guilty about it.
4. Technology:
Don’t stop buying technology. It’s a great way to save money because many electronics are constantly being released at bargain prices.
Technology is always evolving, which is why so many people are picking up the latest gizmo or gadget. It may not be brand new, but there’s always something about it that makes it worth having.
You can save a bundle on laptops, MP3 players and accessories, and computers.
If you’re looking for a deal, you can also get a pretty good one on most cell phones and even some of the most expensive and cutting edge gadgets around.
If it’s not too expensive to begin with, it will be even cheaper when it goes on sale!
5. Books:
One of the best things about reading is that you can do it almost anywhere at any time.
It doesn’t call for excessive amounts of money either–at least not when it comes to buying books.
There are plenty of deals to be had year round on books, especially if you buy online. Bookstores will also be offering some great deals.
If you’re reading right now, it’s about time to look for a few coupons for your next purchase.
6. Purses:
There are plenty of ways to save on purses, especially ones that are most likely to go on sale.
Just because you see an attractive color or pattern doesn’t mean the price will be sky-high.
There are definitely some very affordable options out there.
But if you really want to go crazy with your purse collection, you may want to wait until the springtime for this one–or until the fall weather starts up again, at least. It’s usually at this time of year that purses are most likely to go on sale.
7. Furniture:
Furniture is definitely something you should buy before the recession. This is one purchase that’s not likely to go on sale.
If you don’t have the money for it right now, that doesn’t mean you have to wait until the economy picks up again.
It’s still possible to get furniture at a great price, especially if you know where to look for it.
Ebay is a great place to find cheap furniture–you may even be able to find some great pieces that are no longer available in stores or directly from manufacturers.
You can also check out Craigslist, which is a popular place for people looking to sell used items quickly and easily.
