As the technology industry gains in popularity every year, so does the salaries of software engineers. Despite this rapid change, the overall salary for software engineers has remained remarkably steady over the past decades. With these stats, it is evident that this trend is still on. A 2016 study showed that the median salary for a software engineer in the United States is $77,000, higher than it was ten years ago, but this number is far from universal.
Here the number changes. The overall median salary for 2018 was $110,000, up from $98,000 two years ago. The average salary for a software engineer has increased by $14,000 since 2015.
